Clazziquai Project – Mucho Punk

Two years after Clazziquai's last release, the new album Mucho Punk is well worth the wait.
After a break in releases, on July 14 the electro-pop/house trio Clazziquai have returned with a masterpiece of an album that will go straight to your heart. For those who like their electro somewhat tame, with a hint of house, quirky pop, jazz and a cool lounge sound, Clazziquai Project is the trio to love, adore and obsess over (in a healthy way). With songs that are always a love mix between several musical genres, vocals that are soothing and lyrics that are pretty, it's easy to become addicted to them. This is an album especially enjoyable in transit to places, and the songs will lead you to day dreams that will make time fly by.

The album contains twelve songs of various types. It includes medium-paced, electro-light songs such as Love Again, Back in Time, Spinning the World, At the End of Love, Tell Yourself, Wizard of OZ and The Road. The album also features emotional ballads and slow yet cute songs such as Chocolate truffles, Lazy Sunday Morning, Take A Walk and Rapunzel. The result is there's something for everyone to love in this album.

What is amazing about this trio is how they manage to fuse together so many different sounds and yet make it work, from the flirty melodies in their faster songs to the beautiful arrangements in the slower ones. There is no denying that the charm of this album is pure beauty mixed with a great personality. Not only do their musical compositions contain something unmistakably beautiful, but also the lyrics themselves are a work of wonder, more on the simple side, without a lot of wacky symbolism filling the space. Much of their charm lies just there, in the simplicity of the lyrics completed with the more advanced sounds and arrangements, resulting in music that is original yet not alien.

The strength of this album lies in their vocalists and the all around feel, with Horan's deep voice seducing you further into the slow songs while Alex is the one doing the flirting with his charming voice. The feeling is a comforting one, and the songs are not difficult to understand since they are filled with so much emotion.

An album that is a great companion during rainy days of autumn, songs like Chocolate truffles and Lazy Sunday Morning will make you smile because of their child-like lyrics and cutesy melodies. And then there are songs such as Love Again and Tell Yourself that will make you feel the warmth of spring in your ears and the urge to go clubbing.

This album will probably have no difficulty becoming a playlist darling for listeners, and it's easy to surrender to the charms of this release. Especially for people who are tired of what the mainstream Korean music scene has to offer in terms of the more popular sounds, Clazziquai is the group you can escape to and find a much needed vacation.
