2007 End of Year Review

The KoME team's choices of the best and worst releases and events from 2007.

2007 was a busy year for Korean music from saying hello to new bands such as So Nyuh Shi Dae, welcoming back Wanted and saying goodbye to more people than we care to mention to military service. 2007 also saw the grand opening of this very website in September. So, at the end of our first year we decided to look back over the releases and events of the past 12 months.

Taliana

Best album?: Epik High - Remapping the Human Soul, M - Explore
Best single?: Big Bang - Always (yeah so it's a mini album, whatever), and Andy - Eongttunghan sangsang
Best DVD?: Shinhwa - In 2003-2007 Music Video Collection
Best thing that happened: Shinhwa's activities
Worst thing that happened: Rain's problems with Star M and America
Expectations for 2008: Tali taking over the world so that Shinhwa don't need to go to the army.

sianface

Best album?: Short Cat - I Ain't Be Controlled, Newk - Glorious Warrior (Return To The Past)
Best single?: Ivy - Yuhogui Sonata (Sonata of Temptation)
Best DVD?: -
Best thing that happened: Seo Taiji returning (albeit very late in the year)
Worst thing that happened: good bands only playing in Asia where I can't see them
Expectations for 2008: a new Seo Taiji album, the release of Speed Racer (Rain in Hollywood)

Katy

Best album?: Epik High - Remapping the Human Soul ; Big Bang - Always ; Tohoshinki - Five in the Black (I'm biased)
Best single?: ough...hard one but I'd say Magolpy - Bihaengsonyeo (Flight Girl)
Best DVD?: DBSK - 2nd Asia Tour Concert "O" (and not because I'm biased, because it simply kicks ass 8D)
Best thing that happened: ehrr...flight to japan and going to A-Nation? Big Bang winning Best Song of the year at MKMF awards because Lies is awesome!
Worst thing that happened: I really can't think of anything here
Expectations for 2008: more Rain music because I missed him so much this year

JinxFairy

Best album?: Fly to the Sky - No Limitations
Best single?: Fly to the Sky - Saranghae
Best DVD?: Jang Woo Hyuk: 2nd Concert
Best thing that happened: Hollywood Bowl with Fly to the Sky and Fly to the Sky releasing their 7th album
Worst thing that happened: Fly to the Sky having two of their songs be labeled bad in Korea cause of the lyrics
Expectations for 2008: Hwanhee's solo album

Anu

Best album?: F.T Island - Cheerful Sensibility
Best single?: -
Best DVD?: Big Bang - First Live DVD: The Real
Best thing that happened: KoME's Grand Opening in September.
Worst thing that happened: Cancellation of Rain's tour in North-America and the fight over the name.
Expectations for 2008: More concerts to the whole world, but especially to Europe, seeing the United States is a bit lucky with the more popular artists

Domie

Best album?: Nell - Let's Take A Walk
This is first album I've ever heard from Nell. I loved the peaceful and relaxing tempo of the album. Kim Jongwan has a really nice and interesting voice and the album it definitely worth listening to!

No Brain - Geukeosi jeormeum
It's pretty faithful to their style in general, offering some great korean punk rock.

Best single?: Anyband - Talk Play Love
With BoA and Xiah Junsu's great voices added up with Tablo's skillful rapping, it's a nice package while talented Jin Bora finishes it with the piano.

Motion Dive - Rising Of The Motion Dive
Single included two really good songs I Still and Chase Your Dream which are giving small promises for possible future album.

Best thing that happened: The return of Moon Hee-jun! I have waited this for a while already, and I'm waiting anxiously his activities on 2008.
Worst thing that happened: I think that 2007 was quite scary for Super Junior fans when four of the members Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun were involved with a car accident. Thankfully they have all recovered quite well.
Expectations for 2008: The activities of Moon Hee-jun, and possible releases from both Motion Dive and Luminous. Latter two are indie rock bands, and so far they seem to be worth of keeping an eye for. I'm also very anxious to see how TRAX is going to spend year.
