Spitz is known as one of the most prolific bands in the Japanese music industry. They have gained great popularity in Japan since their debut in 1991 and have applied many various genres of music to their work. Not just your "average pop band," Spitz combines pop and rock to their advantage, aided by lyrics primarily penned by frontman Masamune Kusano.
As of 2007, Spitz has produced fourteen number-one hits (a combination of both singles and albums), and in November it was estimated that the band has sold more than 20 million records. This makes Spitz the 25th best selling artist in Japan.
