Unlike most other visual kei bands, Schwarz Stein's sound isn't guitar based, but digital to emphasise their concept of "near future decadence". Their music ranges from melodic futurepop to the hard, gothic end of EBM and Kaya's dark and imaginative lyrics center on topics like gender identity and artificial life forms. This concept is also reflected in their styling and costumes, which are influenced by gothic and fetish fashion as well as the aesthetics of H.R. Giger's "Alien".
