NEWS is a boyband from the highly successful Johnny's Entertainment agency, which has launched the careers of some of the country's biggest male idol groups, such as SMAP and Arashi.

NEWS' music is the typical happy pop of a Johnny's boyband, with the occasional R&B or eurobeat influence. The members are not merely singers though - like other JE artists they are encouraged to act in dramas and host shows. Despite losing a number of members over the years due to their desire to pursue other projects and various drinking-related scandals, the group is continuing to soldier on and remains popular among J-pop fans.
