The Boss are often compared with DBSK, and it should come as no surprise since mother nature has been very generous with their vocal skills, although the second part of their success was undoubtedly due to their hard work. Even though the band has been active since 2010, their second single Lady was released as late as October 2011. The record will definitely make listeners look at their calendars to see if it’s Valentine’s Day already.
The single has only two tracks: Lady and Calling You, surprisingly both ballads. Not many bands would brave such a move, but once the songs hit your ears, it will be very difficult to shake that feeling of love and warmth off.
Lady aspires to be a grand song with parts sung by all members and a very moving chorus. The rhythm is not particularly slow, however the song still retains its ballad feel. As is typical for ballads, the backing track is made of the piano and acoustic guitar, which makes the vocal work stand out most. All the members show what they can do best – they harmonise wonderfully and entwine whispers into high-pitched parts. The song would fit perfectly to a love song soundtrack or while dancing with a significant other.
Calling You is not much different than Lady - it has a similar rhythm, however it is the drumming and the R&B beat that stand out most in this song. The members yet again ensnare the listeners’ attention with their lovely voices and they alone make the track worth listening to over and over again.
Lady is proof that the comparison with DBSK is by no means groundless: The Boss sing beautifully and the songs on this release will definitely warm your hearts. If you need a little love in your life, all you need is to listen to this single to make it tangible.
