Could you please introduce yourselves and your role within the band for our readers?

Hi, we are the band Black Bag. The members are Minwoo on guitar and lead vocals, Jeff on lead guitar, Hyezee on bass and Taewook on drums.

What's the origin of the name, Black Bag.  Does it have special meaning to you?

The name Black Bag was started just as a simple name. To us the name means a bag that anyone can think differently about what can be in the bag. We hope our music can reach many people in different ways.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?

We play rock music.

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

We’ve been playing together since 2009, so about 4 years. We kind of met naturally. We all played an instrument and we were near each other at the right time.

When did you form your band and what inspired you to make music together?

We were at the stage where we wanted to make music of our own, which was in 2009.

Do all of you contribute to writing your music?

Yes, we do. Mostly Minwoo brings rough drafts of a song and we work on it together to complete the song.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?

We don’t really have any boundaries. We just try to write music about what we think and feel. Whatever we think at the time I guess.

Have your music and your relationship with each other evolved since you first began playing together?

Definitely. We’re kind of growing up together as we go. Us and the music as well.

What has been your biggest challenge as a group so far? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?

Fortunately we don’t think we have had any yet. Sure we had some ups and downs but nothing that was too complicated that we couldn’t overcome. We think big challenges will come as we play more and more.

You've stated that the ambition behind Black Bag is to influence other facets of the music industry.  Has that changed, and if so, how?

We don’t remember saying that. Maybe we did but I can’t recall at the moment. But it sounds like a good thing to work on! It might be better if the music industries can work on finding music that’s diverse and special and not go for just music that can make money.

What advice would you offer to those who want to form their own bands?

Finding the right members can be very difficult. I think we were lucky to meet each other. Other than that, just love music and make some music that moves you first!

Do you have any last words?  A message for our readers?

Thank you for reading and thank you for taking an interest in us!

KoME would like to thank Ruby Record making this interview possible.
