Sally - Hello, Barbie

Sally say hello with bright, easy going indie rock

Sally are a five member group consisting of Ju Eun (vocals), Lee Seong Jun (vocals and guitar), Lee Jong Hyeon (bass), Ma Seung Beom (drums) and Lee Cheong Eun (keyboard). A female-vocal indie rock group, they debuted in March 2009 with the two-track digital single Hello, Barbie.

The digital single begins with the title track, Hello, Barbie, which starts off with acoustic guitar, drums, a keyboard and Ju Eun's clear, melodic voice. There's hints of bass and electric guitar that fade in and out before the first verse, coming in properly as the first verse progresses, rounding the song out from an acoustic, almost acapella, sound to more of a light rock which complements Ju Eun's voice very well and stops the vocals from sounding too sugary sweet. Although quite laidback, the song conveys a light, happy feeling to the listener.

Hello, Barbie leads into the second and last track of the digital single, 11beonjjae Yeohaeng. More upbeat than the previous song, and with a bit of a pop and dance edge to it during the chorus, 11beonjjae Yeohaeng is a very cheerful and uplifting song about dreams coming true.

Two songs is not much to judge a group on but from this taster it appears that Sally will head in the direction of bright, easy, "feel-good" music. Whether you prefer upbeat ballads, laid-back pop or soft, easy-going rock, Hello, Barbie may appeal to you on the grounds that it's just that easy to listen to. Ju Eun's voice is also very pleasant, undeniably feminine while not being harsh on the ears. Debuting with a fairly strong digital single, Sally are definitely a group to look out for.
