Debuting as Number 1 on the Oricon Chart, this Single really was a Summer Dream for TOHOSHINKI!
With their 13th Japanese single TOHOSHINKI (DBSK) manage to catch your attention immediately and show you a different side of summer with every song.
The first song, Summer Dream, with it's up-tempo beat puts you instantly in a groovy mood and just by listening to it you feel summery. Yoochun starts off with a small rap part and is then followed by Jaejoong's first line, that already gives you an impression of the catchy chorus. Each member shows their powerful singing and, in the last third of the song, Yunho and Yoochun show us their rapping skills in this light-hearted, summery pop song.
Without a break, the second track starts off immediately with Jaejoong's gentle voice. The title Song for You, already shows us that this one is a slower song but this light tune makes it relaxing and easy to understand the sweet meaning of the lyrics. Less powerful and more laid back than the previous one, it is the perfect bridge between Summer Dream and Love in the Ice.
Love in the Ice, a title that doesn't really remind you of summer, is possibly the most emotional ballad by TOHOSHINKI and changes the whole mood of the single. Once again, the song starts slowly with Jaejoong's smooth vocals accompanied by just a piano and later strings, as soon as Changmin's part starts. Throughout the entirety of this five and a half minute song, it grows in intensity until it reaches an impressive and overwhelming climax where Junsu takes over as the lead and the others join his singing in perfect harmonization.
This single was released in two editions. Type A comes with a DVD and the MV for Summer Dream, while Type B has a new acappella version of Hug.
With this single TOHOSHINKI prove once more that they are not only a band with good looks, but also great talent and the debut on number one was merited.
