There really is no point introducing Boa. She's everywhere in Asia, so you've probably heard of her at some point. She's "Miss Popular", a trait that helps her stuff reach the top of the charts on a regular basis, even when it's lacklustre and sub par. Luckily for us, though, this single is actually enjoyable. Some might even say refreshing.
01-Key of Heart
If the cover can't make you feel the warmth of summer, then this song will. It's your typical walk along the pop boardwalk, complete with keyboards and fancy string arrangements. It was designed to put a smile on your face and it will. It actually sounds like summer, reminiscent of times spent with friends on a nice solstice evening, sunset and all. The chorus is as catchy as it can get and it actually comes with some very nice vocal shifts, courtesy of our favourite little Korean.
The subtle-yet-necessary funk-a-licous guitar is everywhere in this song and it really shines. Keep an ear open for it; it'll help get you "in the mood".
02-Dotch
I like this one. I'm not a big pop fan, but give me anything that screams disco and I can't help but listen. BoA doesn't usually tickle my fancy, but this song strays away from her standard sound just enough to warrant a thumbs-up on my part. The chorus works well, especially with the way she extends certain words to add "oomph" to the mix.
Damn it, dig that funky six-string.
The first press has an English version of the title track, but I wasn't lucky enough to get my hands on it.
OVERALL SCORE: 7.5/10 for being a good, if not short, pop release. It makes you feel good and that's the most important part. It loses a few points simply because it lacks a third exclusive track. An English remix is ok, but nothing that is worth extra marks.
