An Asian version of the Eurovision Song Contest was finally confirmed and announced to be held in mid-2009.
Asianvision consists of a six-month musical event where the artists compete with one song in regional tournaments until the grand final day. 16 countries/regions will take part of the event: China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. These areas comprise over 3 billion people (half of Earth's population) and a potential audience of over 500 million viewers.
