More diversity in the Korean Music Awards 2010

On March 30th, 2010, the Korean Music Awards (KMA) will be held at Platoon Kunsthalle, and the organizers have promised a year of fairness and diversity.

Every year only famous boybands or girlbands are nominated, and it's rare to have a simple rock band or jazz band. Diversity has not been the main word in the Korean Music Awards.

However, this year, while idol bands like Girls' Generation and Brown Eyed Girls were nominated for the Album of the Year and Song of the Year, relatively unknown bands were also chosen. It's a first in the Korean Music Awards.

"The problem of the current music scene in Korea is that we don't recognize the diversity of genres. However, there have been small movements where listeners have started to appreciate other genres, and we want to pull them out from the shadows, give them credit for their great work and share their music with the public,'' said a representative.
